Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about OBD Scan Pro.

๐Ÿš— Getting Started
What OBD-II adapter do I need? โ–ผ
OBD Scan Pro works with ELM327-compatible adapters that support WiFi or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). We recommend adapters that support ELM327 v1.5 or higher for best compatibility. Popular options include Vgate iCar Pro, OBDLink MX+, and generic ELM327 WiFi adapters. Classic Bluetooth adapters are not supported on iOS โ€” only WiFi or BLE.
How do I connect my adapter? โ–ผ
WiFi adapters: Plug the adapter into your car's OBD-II port, go to iPhone Settings โ†’ WiFi, connect to the adapter's network (usually named "WiFi_OBDII" or similar), then open OBD Scan Pro and tap Connect.

BLE adapters: Plug in the adapter, ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone, open OBD Scan Pro, and the app will automatically discover nearby BLE devices. Select your adapter from the list.
Where is the OBD-II port in my car? โ–ผ
The OBD-II port is typically located under the dashboard on the driver's side, near the steering column. It's usually within arm's reach from the driver's seat. Some vehicles may have it behind a small panel or cover. Check your vehicle's owner manual if you can't locate it. All vehicles manufactured after 1996 (US) or 2001 (EU) are required to have an OBD-II port.
Which vehicles are supported? โ–ผ
OBD Scan Pro supports all OBD-II compliant vehicles, which includes most cars and light trucks manufactured after 1996 (USA), 2001 (EU petrol), and 2004 (EU diesel). This covers all major brands including BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, VW, Audi, and many more. The app communicates using standard OBD-II protocols (ISO 9141, KWP2000, CAN, J1850).
๐Ÿค– Features & Usage
What does the AI Diagnosis feature do? โ–ผ
The AI Diagnosis feature analyzes your vehicle's diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and sensor data using artificial intelligence to provide:
โ€ข Root cause analysis โ€” Identifies the most likely cause of the issue
โ€ข Repair recommendations โ€” Step-by-step guidance on how to fix the problem
โ€ข Cost estimates โ€” Approximate repair costs for parts and labor
โ€ข Severity assessment โ€” How urgent the repair is

This feature requires a Premium subscription and an active internet connection.
How do I clear a check engine light? โ–ผ
After connecting to your vehicle, go to the DTCs tab to see all active trouble codes. Review them first, then tap the "Clear Codes" button. This will reset the check engine light and clear stored DTCs. Important: Clearing codes does not fix the underlying issue. If the problem persists, the check engine light will return. We recommend using the AI Diagnosis feature to understand the issue before clearing.
How do I generate a PDF report? โ–ผ
After performing a scan, tap the "Generate Report" button. You can customize the report with your company logo, customer information, and technician notes. The PDF includes all DTCs, live sensor readings, AI analysis results, and VIN details. Reports can be shared via email, Messages, AirDrop, or saved to Files. This feature is available with a Premium subscription.
What live data can I monitor? โ–ผ
OBD Scan Pro can display 50+ real-time parameters including:
โ€ข Engine RPM, Vehicle Speed, Throttle Position
โ€ข Coolant Temperature, Oil Temperature, Intake Air Temp
โ€ข Fuel Pressure, Fuel Level, Fuel Trims (Short/Long Term)
โ€ข MAF Sensor, MAP Sensor, O2 Sensors
โ€ข Battery Voltage, Engine Load, Timing Advance
โ€ข Boost Pressure (for turbo vehicles)

Available parameters depend on your vehicle's ECU capabilities.
๐Ÿ’ณ Subscription & Billing
How much does Premium cost? โ–ผ

How do I cancel my subscription? โ–ผ

Common Issues & Fixes

Step-by-step solutions to the most common problems.

๐Ÿ“ถ WiFi Adapter Not Connecting

  1. Make sure the adapter is plugged into the OBD port and the ignition is ON
  2. Go to iPhone Settings โ†’ WiFi
  3. Connect to the adapter network (e.g., "WiFi_OBDII")
  4. Ignore any "No Internet Connection" warnings
  5. Open OBD Scan Pro and tap Connect
๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Disable "Auto-Join" on your home WiFi to prevent your phone from switching back.

๐Ÿ“ก BLE Adapter Not Found

  1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled in iPhone Settings
  2. Make sure the adapter LED is blinking (powered on)
  3. Check that the adapter supports Bluetooth Low Energy (not Classic)
  4. Try toggling Bluetooth off and on
  5. Close and reopen the app, then scan again
๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Classic Bluetooth (non-BLE) adapters are not compatible with iOS.

โš ๏ธ No Data / Communication Error

  1. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is ON (engine running or ACC mode)
  2. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the adapter
  3. Go to Settings in the app and try a different OBD protocol
  4. Check if the adapter works with another vehicle
  5. Some older adapters may need a firmware update
๐Ÿ’ก Tip: If the adapter works with other cars, your vehicle's ECU may use a specific protocol โ€” try "Auto Detect" in settings.

  1. Close the app when not actively scanning
  2. Disable Live Data continuous mode if not needed
  3. Reduce the data refresh rate in app Settings
